As part of efforts to fight counterfeit products entering its market, Egypt has recently established a Brand Protection Group working in co-ordination with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Industry. The move follows the approval of a draft consumer protection law in April 2006. The Brand Protection Group is focusing most of its attention on the domestic market. The body’s immediate concern is to raise awareness about fake products and the measures that are being put in place to punish producers or distributors of counterfeit goods. While significant energies will be invested in educating customs workers and officials, particular attention will be focused on Egyptian consumers.

The success of Automation and Drives in Egypt is evident in the division’s strong local know-how, its solid record of successful cooperation with the different Egyptian industries, and its powerful network of reliable sales channels. These include system integrators, panel builders, and distributors to ensure that Siemens products and services are available on the local market.
