Inauguration
of the Sharm El Sheikh International Congress Center (SHICC) in a record
time to host the World Economic Forum and other international and regional
events in Egypt. |
Siemens Egypt Industrial Solutions and Services
(I&S) delivered a successful project previously
signed with the private investor, Naama Golf &
Touristic Investment Company, one of Mr. Hussein Salems’ group of companies
known as HKS GROUP, for the construction of the first International Congress
Center in Sharm El Sheikh under the supervision of Shaker Consultancy Group.
The turnkey project works covered overall project coordination for the
center design and construction of all electromechanical works; including
glass curtain walls and state-of-the-art technology at highest quality
standards.
The project covers an area of 22,000m2 and includes a main congress hall
occupying 2,180m2 to accommodate 2,100 persons, ten VIP private lounges,
eleven flexible meeting rooms to host a range of events for another 2,500
persons, a main lobby, several waiting areas and registration offices, TV
studio, press area, service area, staff area, café and restaurant, storage
areas as well as 40,000 square meters of green areas and landscape. The new
International Congress Center is now ready to accommodate international and
regional events and forums at the highest level.
The project was faced with a challenging deadline, as the client was
committed to finalize the construction of the International Congress Center
by the 31st of March 2006, therefore the time available for all design and
construction activities from contract signature to completion of the project
was less than 9 months to host the World Economic Forum, a very high profile
event for Egypt.
The World Economic Forum on the Middle East taking place in Sharm El Sheikh
starting the 20th of May will gather global leaders to deliberate the
political, social and economic affairs of this important part of the world.
The International Congress Center was built in a record time, which was only
possible due to the inviting atmosphere for investment in Egypt and the
encouragement of the Egyptian Government to the private sector as well as
the iron will, strong leadership, dedication, sleepless nights and full
working days of Mr. Hussein Salem and his great team of engineers, managers,
architects, artists and courageous finance.
