Siemens’ first annual Transportation Systems
Awareness Day |
Siemens Egypt launched its first annual
press training in the field of Transportation
Systems. The training was executed in the
Marriot Hotel on the 23rd of November 2006 and
was attended by a number of journalists who are
involved in transportation journalism.
Mr. Tarek Aly, Head of Transportation systems
department in Siemens, said: “The main purpose
of this training is to enable the journalists’
to have better reporting skills on issues
related to the transportation field.”
Topics discussed during the training were
modernization and restructuring of Egyptian
railways, safety and signaling systems including
multi media transportation methods and the
future of cargo transportation in Egypt, which
journalists thought were vital topics that
needed
to be further examined with a deeper insight.
Siemens recently executed its first successful
training in the field of Automation and Drives
for journalists earlier this month in which Dr.
Hany Loka, Head of Automation and Drives in
Siemens, discussed the opportunities and threats
inherent in the Egyptian industrial sector.
It is worth mentioning that Siemens is currently
receiving journalists’ entries for a the Profile
Awards, a pan African competition launched 2
years ago in Egypt intending to spread awareness
amongst the masses about science and technology
through the most simplified journalistic works.
Siemens has been active in Egypt for more than
100 years. The company occupies a leading
position in the business areas of Power,
Automation and Control, Medical, Transportation,
and Information and Communications. In Egypt,
every second household is supplied with energy
generated by a Siemens turbine, and every second
phone call is routed through a Siemens telephone
switch. In fiscal 2006 (October 1, 2005 –
September 30, 2006), sales to customers in Egypt
amounted to nearly EUR 340 million. New orders
totaled more than EUR 275 million. Siemens
currently has over 300 employees in Egypt.
Siemens opened its first technical office in
Cairo in 1901. The company’s long-term
commitment to Egypt was underscored in 1992,
when Siemens Limited was established to handle
all of Siemens’ sales and service activities in
Egypt. Since October 1998, Siemens Limited has
been a consolidated Regional Company, with the
goal of further expanding and strengthening
Siemens' business relations with Egypt. Over the
past 100 years, Siemens has developed into a
long-term, reliable and committed partner for
Egypt. The company embraces its social
responsibility in Egypt by promoting employee
development and supporting educational
organizations. Medical Solutions donated an
Emotion 6 computed tomography system for use in
a research project on mummies being carried out
by Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities.
