Siemens Automation and Drives
and the Industrial Modernization Center IMC
launched a program to boost local competence in
industrial automation technology. In this
program labeled after the Original Equipment
Manufacturers (OEMs), both parties collaborate
to survey local equipment manufacturers, to
conduct a gap analysis for them and to issue
recommendations for manufacturers whose business
are eligible for modernization. Additionally,
Siemens Automation and Drives is in charge of
the technical development of these local
equipment manufacturers through new system
design using latest technologies, consulting,
engineering, implementation, training and
know-how transfer.This Dr. Hany Loka,
Senior Vice President of Siemens Limited Egypt
and Head of Automation and Drives, declared that
Egypt’s economic development critically hinges
upon the growth of the industrial sector.
Therefore, creating environment in which the
private sector can lead the way to global
competitiveness has become an essential need
that can only be fulfilled through a strong
public-private partnership. About this newly
launched program, he added that the idea is to
introduce the automation systems to replace the
conventional systems which are used by most
local equipment manufacturers in Egypt. The
problem with the existing machines is that they
are large in size and perform minor inconsistent
tasks.
Dr. Loka added that modern automated systems
that rely on computer signals rather than
complicated cables reduce dysfunction and help
in tracing any malfunction, thus making machine
maintenance simpler and faster. According to Dr.
Loka, controllers that are easy to adjust in
this fully computerized operation system can
serve a variety of functions with different
settings that do not require any machine
dismantling.
