Siemens in association with the National Blood Transfusion Center launches its first initiative for blood donation

Tuesday 23rd of May 2006 marked the first blood donation day which comes as part of Siemens worldwide initiative for enhancing corporate responsibility, a duty which Siemens in Egypt strives to fulfill throughout all its activities in the country.

Siemens Egypt won the bid due to its commitment in offering state-of-the-art technologies in the field of telecommunication and information technology in addition to its long history in contributing to the supply and execution of numerous fiber optic cables networks for Telecom Egypt. The company has previously produced solutions for old exchanges through providing state-of-the-art and wide-ranging networks which link several exchanges in Egypt. This is considered part of the company’s main initiative to improve local and international communication services efficiency in the country since 1989.

Eng. Ahmed Khabiry, Vice President, Optical Networks, said: “Cairo has an essential and strategic role in Egypt, as the capital and major center of all investments in the country, where all presidential and governmental associations are located. The importance of this project and the fact that it cannot tolerate any errors has led to the collaboration of Telecom Egypt and Siemens as one of the leading companies in this field.”

Eng. Ahmed Khabiry added that Siemens’ execution of this project is an endorsement of Telecom Egypt’s initiative to supply Egypt with the latest systems and technologies in the field of communication. Eventually this would increase the efficiency of the digital services in Egypt and fit up with the latest developments in the field of information technology worldwide.

Studies have shown that donating blood may reduce risk for heart disease, and stimulates the generation of red blood cells. In patients prone to iron overload, blood donation prevents the accumulation of iron. This is in addition to the psychological benefit of resulting from the sense the donor has that he/she has made a contribution and may have helped save a person's life while fulfilling a social duty.
