Siemens Egypt wins a contract
to supply Lafarge – Titan Egypt with ID fan
drives for their cement production plant |
Siemens recently won a contract for the supply
and operation of the Beni Suef cement plant
owned by the internationally renowned cement
company Titan-Lafarge. The contract comprises
the supply of all necessary equipment (including
transformers) and commissioning to begin
operations at a capacity of 1200 KW.
Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) Large Drives
(LD) was chosen from amongst seven other bidders
to supply the drive system for the ID fan. It is
worth mentioning that Siemens was the only local
company contributing to this project through its
official representation in Egypt, Siemens
Limited. The contract was signed by Dr. Hany
Loka, Senior Vice President of Siemens Limited
Egypt and Head of Automation and Drives, as well
as Mr. Khaled Badawi, CEO Lafarge – Titan.
The estimated time of delivery for this project
is March 2007 during which Siemens is expected
to deliver 2 drive sets for ID fans including
the transformers of the pre heater tower, which
are utilized for proper heat distribution within
the kiln. Siemens will also be holding on site
training sessions to provide the technical staff
with the knowledge required to operate the newly
installed system.
Dr. Loka said that “The client was very cautious
in his selection process taking into
consideration high quality standards as a main
criterion in their choice. This is due to the
critical nature of the cement production process
and the high safety standards required.
Lafarge-Titan Egypt sought a complete harmonized
system to insure high performance and flawless
operation of its plants.”
Lafarge Cement Technical Center is the official
consultant for Beni Suef Cement Co. & Alexandria
Cement Co. that is in charge of overseeing all
the works carried out by Siemens. Lafarge
