Siemens wins orders worth
over 16 million euros for the supply of baggage
and cargo handling systems in the United Arab
Emirates |
Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services
Group (I&S) was awarded the contract for the
equipment in Dubai International Airport, Abu
Dhabi International Airport, and the Al Dhafra
Airbase in Abu Dhabi. The projects cover the
supply of baggage and cargo handling systems, as
well as a range of services. The total value of
the contract is 16 million euros.
Dubai International Airport is one of the
world's fastest growing airports. The number of
passengers using it rose from 15.9 million in
2002 to 24.7 million in 2005. The Dubai Emirate
Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) extended the
I&S Airport Logistics Division's (AL) contract
for technical maintenance of the baggage
handling system in Terminal 1 of Dubai
International Airport for a further year. 150
on-site service technicians guarantee for the
end customer, Emirates Airlines, that arrival,
transit and departure baggage handling is
processed without a hitch. A 24-hour, on-call
service ensures a quick response and high system
availability.
The Supervision Committee for the Expansion of
Abu Dhabi International Airport (SCADIA) awarded
Siemens the order for a baggage and a cargo
handling system. Siemens will design, construct
and commission both systems. At the same time,
Siemens has was also contracted to maintain the
systems for the first twelve months. Group 4
Securitas, one of the world's largest security
companies, contracted Siemens to supply a
material handling and baggage handling system
for the Al Dhafra Airbase in Abu Dhabi. Here
again, Siemens will be supplying complete
turnkey systems.
