H.E. Dr. Angela Merkel, German Chancellor,
H.E. Dr. Ahmed Nazif, Prime Minister of Egypt,
H.E. Eng. Rachid Mohamed Rachid, Egypt’s
Minister of Foreign Trade and Industry, H.E.
Michael Glos, German Minister of Economics and
Technology and Mr. Rudi Lamprecht, Board Member,
Siemens AG witnessed the signature of 3
agreements between Siemens Egypt’s Automation
and Drives (A&D), the Industrial Modernization
Center (IMC) and the Industrial Training Center
(ITC) to provide better services to Industrial
Enterprises and to address their main training
issues.
The agreements were signed by Dr. Hany Loka,
Senior Vice President and Head of Automation and
Drives, Siemens Egypt, Mr. Adham Nadim,
Executive Director of IMC, and Eng. Mohamed El
Seweedy, Executive Board member of ITC to enable
the private sector to lead growth, making
Egyptian industries leapfrog into global
competitiveness.
Siemens Egypt A&D had taken initial steps in
collaborating with IMC in 2006 to survey local
equipment manufacturers, to conduct a gap
analysis for local manufacturers, issuing
recommendations for businesses that are eligible
for modernization. Siemens will develop and
modernize 30 local OEM’s, which would in turn
increase the exports of the local industry. The
company’s current role is to provide electric
and electronic solutions by using local
competencies.
The second agreement entails a training project
to create a working mechanism between Siemens
A&D and ITC in order to upgrade the Automation,
Motor, and Drives and Instrumentation of
Industrial Training Centers and Engineering
Schools. Siemens’ role in that respect is to
supply equipment for 50 centers throughout
several governorates all over Egypt covering up
to 12 centers every 6 months. Training centers
will be provided with training material,
training for 2 trainers by Siemens Egypt, in
addition to Siemens accreditation of those
training centers.
The third and final agreement between Siemens
Egypt A&D and IMC entailed the upgrading of 50
factories for the purpose of creating an
electrical upgrade of production lines using
either the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
or the Computerized Numeric Controller (CNC).
The agreement encompasses several types of
manufacturers from various industries: Chemical,
F&B, Pharmaceutical, Textile, Furniture, &
Engineering.
The Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D),
Nuremberg, Germany, is the leading manufacturer
in this field worldwide. Products supplied by
A&D include standard products for the
manufacturing and process industries and for the
electrical installation industry as well as
system solutions, for example for machine tools,
and solutions for whole industries such as the
automation of entire automobile factories or
chemical plants. Supplementing this range of
products and services, A&D also offers software
for linking production and management
(horizontal and vertical IT integration) and for
optimizing production processes. A&D employs
70,600 people worldwide and in fiscal year 2006
(to September 30) earned a group profit of
€1.572 billion on sales of €12.848 billion and
orders of €14.108 billion.
