Siemens’ first environmental awareness day,
which was applied on 5 different Egyptian
schools: Bassiouni, Abu kilani, El Wedi, Weseyet
el akwaz and Al Raqawi, has finally come to a
conclusion. The program included several
activities that ranged from showing children
videos about the environment and assigning them
mind stimulating tasks through which they can
think more about their surrounding environment.
The program’s planning and organization was
executed in Siemens’ headquarters over the
period of two months where the company provided
the two winning students with the necessary
tools and facilities to achieve maximum benefit
for the society. Execution of the project was
done in cooperation with AIESEC Egypt, a global
organization which develops youth leadership
with a network of almost 500,000 members across
more than 83 countries at more than 800
universities worldwide.
The students responsible for this program made
tremendous efforts to achieve their aim of
improving the mindset of Egyptian children. They
chose the environment to be their topic to raise
the children’s awareness and make them view life
from a different perspective. Mourad Farah,
Winner of Corporate Citizenship and
Environmental Awareness Contest, said: “It was a
self disciplinary exercise” adding that this is
one of the most fruitful experiences he has ever
encountered.
Jacinta obegolu, Winner of Corporate Citizenship
and Environmental Awareness Contest, said: “At
the beginning it all seemed impossible but we
were amazed at the children’s response in all 5
schools”. She added that they had to tailor
simple messages and communicate them effectively
to the younger generations about creating and
sustaining a clean environment and how to
positively contribute to this cause.
Siemens’ next step is to sustain its efforts and
spread the message further to other schools in
Egypt.
