“Siemens” participates in launching a
“National Energy Saving Campaign” |
Siemens Limited has participated in organizing a
“National Energy Saving Campaign” under the
auspices and with the presence of H.E Eng. Maged
George, Egyptian Minister of State for
Environmental Affairs, in collaboration with the
Social Fund for Development, UNDP,
Procter&Gamble, and Miraco Carrier. The
campaign’s objectives are to: spread awareness
among the industrial sector and the consumers,
demonstrate the importance of saving energy, and
explain how to contribute in maintaining its
sources.
Eng. Mohamed El-Mahdi, President and CEO of
Siemens Egypt, anticipates that by the year 2025
and in case of intensifying the efforts and
spreading the required awareness, Egypt could
save energy consumption by 30%. This is in spite
of the increase in GDP to reach its double in
addition to a population growth by around 10
million people. Eng. El-Mahdi also expects that
Egypt will produce 20% of its electricity needs
from renewable sources, while the remaining 80%
will be produced from gas-fired stations and
highly qualified power stations.
Dr. Hany Loka, Senior Vice President and Head of
Siemens Automation&Drives, pointed out that the
industrial sector in Egypt causes about one
third of the total greenhouse gas emissions,
which is the main reason behind climate changes.
Thus, it is the responsibility of every Egyptian
citizen towards saving the consumption and
improving energy and resource efficiency as well
as protecting the climate. In addition, the
ongoing increase in the prices of energy and raw
materials urgently requires the efficient use of
resources. Dr. Loka signed the memorandum of
understanding between Procter&Gamble and Miraco
Carrier.
It worth mentioning that Siemens portfolio
includes solutions for nearly every
environmentally relevant field of power
generation, transmission and consumption –
buildings, lighting, transportation and industry
– as well as environmental technologies such as
water purification and air pollution controls.
In recent years, Siemens has optimized energy
consumption in many buildings worldwide –
cutting energy costs and, thus, emissions by as
much as 25 percent. For this reason and in favor
of developing Egypt’s future, Siemens constantly
searches for discovering new standards that help
in sustaining and enlarging the industrial,
automation&Drives, energy, and healthcare
sectors.
